Greek Catholic Museum

The Greek Catholic Museum was handed over in 2023, and its mission is twofold. On the one hand, its task is to collect, preserve, make researchable and present the special object culture of the Greek Catholic Church as a thematic museum.

On the other hand, the collection of the museum also includes objects related to Eastern Christian churches found in Hungary. This is how a private collector’s legacy of more than 250 icons came into the possession of the museum.

Parallel to the collection work, in response to contemporary museum professional and social challenges, the Greek Catholic Museum intends to operate as a community museum. As a cultural institution open to the world, it occupies a place in the local and broader Hungarian cultural life and among its museums.

The works shown in the exhibitions are now museum objects, but we cannot forget that they have been imbued with the prayers of the generations before us as liturgical objects for centuries. Looking at the objects, we see the living witnesses of the faith. As a window to eternity.”
